MILK COLLECTION BEGINS IN CHIPINGE

In January, we took 4 Hambas to Chipinge to initiate testing with dairy farmers by helping them transport milk from two local milk collection centres.  On average the Hamba carry 170- 200 litres of milk per trip, and so far have collected 15000 litres of milk.  Once at the collection centre, a Dairbord truck arrives to collect the milk and take it to the factory in Chipinge where it is used in a variety of dairy products.

Already 40 farmers have signed up to join the Mobility for Africa partnership, and will receive 70 per cent matching funds from a grant from the EU managed by We Effect that also provides technical assistance to improve milk production.  Then the farmers monthly payments will be guaranteed by the Dairbord, one of the largest dairy producers in the country.

The plan is to roll out tricycles and our new batteries and charging stations from September to scale to a fleet of 100 that can service the communities last mile transport needs in a 50km radius. With more than 5000 small scale farmers in the country and the demand for dairy growing, there is huge scope to expand to other sites with our partners the Zimbabwean Dairy  Farmers Association,  the Dairbord, and We Effect.
